Qatar World cup

As the Qatar world cup approaches the Trust would like to express its support for all groups that face discrimination across the World. It is a sad reflection on FIFA that they have chosen a country where LBGT+ rights are not recognised and where homosexuality is punishable by up to 7 years in jail.

We are also greatly concerned that many migrant workers have lost their lives in the construction of World Cup venues and, despite FIFA’s conciliatory statements, compensation for workers’ families has still not been satisfactorily resolved.

The World Cup should be the pinnacle of the footballing calendar for players and supporters. FIFA has tarnished the tournament, whilst we may watch the football we will also be remembering all those that have lost their lives and suffered.
