150 Years - Wolves Origins - Heritage Walk

Local historian and Trust member Kevin Harris continues to deliver his highly acclaimed Wolves Origins History Walk, taking supporters through the Goldthorn Hill and Blakenhall areas of Wolverhampton.

Following in the footsteps of the club's founders, the walk explores the earliest history of Wolverhampton Wanderers, identifying the location of the club's first playing field and the places where the founders met as they established what would become one of English football's most famous clubs.

During our 150th anniversary season, it is an absolute must for every Wolves supporter.

The purpose of these walks, alongside Kevin's Blue Plaque Wolverhampton tours, is to raise funds for the restoration and appropriate marking of the graves of those who played pivotal roles in the club's founding and early history.

So far, sufficient funds have been raised to restore the graves of John (Jack) Brodie and John (Jack) Baynton, who were the co-founders of Wolverhampton Wanderers. Those projects are now completed.

Funding has also been secured for the restoration of the grave of John Addenbrooke who was Wolves first paid official, was secretary/manager from 1885 for nearly 37 years and oversaw the move to Molineux, and Charles Crump, who was the first person to bring football to Wolverhampton around 1871 with Stafford Road F.C. and had many roles in football administration being the founder and first President of the Birmingham Football Association (1875), served as Vice-President of The Football Association, and played an influential role in the development of football at both national and international level. He also served as Vice-President of Wolves for many years.

Kevin intends to continue fundraising—more than £4,000 has already been raised—to restore and mark the graves of other key figures in the club's early history, including George Worrall, the club's first secretary and manager from 1877 to 1885; Charlie Mason, the first Wolves player to be capped by England; and Dick Baugh, captain of Wolves' first FA Cup-winning side in 1893.

While the Wolves Museum at Molineux is always well worth a visit, these walks bring to life the places where our club was founded and its remarkable story began. Kevin's commitment to ensuring that these important figures are properly remembered through the restoration and marking of their graves is an initiative that deserves the support of every Wolves fan.

Kevin's next walk takes place on Sunday 2 August 2026, starting at 10.30am. (£10:00 minimum donation)
